“Catherine Perez was born and raised in Manhattan, New York to Dominican parents. She graduated with honors from The City University of New York, Baruch College with a Bachelor in Business Administration in Finance and Minor in Communication Studies. As an undergraduate, in order to pay for college Catherine interned in various nonprofits and fortune 500 companies including Working In Support of Education, SIFMA Foundation, Be Social Change, ViacomCBS, Nickelodeon, NBCUniversal, Turner Broadcasting, Penguin Random House, and Univision. Her goal to break down stereotypes for minority women in finance and tech led her to currently working as an associate for a tech company.
Working alongside several non-profits like UNICEF, Bowery Mission, and NY Cares; Catherine advocates for children’s rights, education, and gender equality. She has used her background to help immigrants and disadvantaged children learn about math and encouraged young women in STEM to succeed. Her passion for working with underprivileged children is global, on her visit to the Dominican Republic she collected and distributed school supplies for children in need and hopes to do the same for every new country she visits.
Aside from her academic success and volunteer work, Catherine is also a trained dancer and actress. Her most noteworthy performance was when she created and performed a modern dance piece at a 92Y charity event benefiting children in the arts. You can often find Catherine performing in New York’s off-Broadway scene or dancing salsa all around New York City.
